Do you ever find yourself tired, worn, overwhelmed, broken displeased, unsettled with how things are going? Have you been frustrated about some situation in your life… A time that you were wanting things to just get better.
The song ‘Worn‘, by Tenth Avenue North, resonates with my heart, especially in those really hard times. Each verse is so powerful as they describe those moments that our heart cries out for something better to come. A story that describes how in each of us is a desire to have hope.
Hope is a powerful, life-giving thing but the absence of hope can be devastating.
I have found great encouragement in the truth Paul wrote in Romans:
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
This verse is so much easier to apply in retrospect than it is to live out in the moment of suffering. I’ve been taught and I know that the completion of the work God is doing in me will far exceed any expectation I could ever have right now. To be fully enveloped by God’s presence, will fade away any pain or suffering I could ever got through.
I constantly ask God to help me move my wishful desires to an unshaken hope in Him. I pray that my shallow desires of wanting something better would deepen to a joy-filled hope that can get me through whatever heart-ache I may face.
Paul continues later on in Romans with a short little passage that has become one of my life verses:
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer”
Seek God faithfully through prayer so that you may find a deep-rooted hope in Him that will give you the joy in the moment of whatever affliction may come your way to persevere.
