Allison Mangrum – Worship Leader

Have you ever received a gift that you didn’t use? Maybe you didn’t know what to do with the gift, so you stuck it in the back of a closet. Maybe you used it for a little while until the novelty of it wore off and then completely forgot about it. Or maybe you were the gift giver and gave someone a gift they didn’t use.

My boys love to play XBOX games. They also love Legos. So, naturally, they are fans of the Lego XBOX games. A couple years ago, Lego came out with a new Lego Marvel XBOX game. My boys talked about it constantly. So, I decided to surprise them and I pre-ordered the game without telling them. When the game was finally released, I picked it up from the store and surprised them with it. I was so excited to give them this game that they had been looking at and talking about for months. They loved it and were so grateful. They played it a few times that first week, and then went back to their old Lego games. I figured that was probably normal—kids like to rotate their games, right? Not in this instance. My kids never played that game again. Now, every time I see that Lego Marvel game in the hall closet, I think “Well, that was a waste.”

I wonder if that is how God feels when He blesses us with gifts and talents and then watches as we ignore those gifts and let them go to waste, unopened and unused.

I Peter 4:10-11 says,

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

God loves to bless us and He has gifted each one of us uniquely. He desires to see us use these gifts to glorify Him and further His kingdom.

Speaking of using our God-given gifts, Central’s Worship Team loves adding new people to our team. We get excited when people in our church use their gift of music to glorify God and lead the congregation in praising Him. We know there are some musically talented people in our church who are sitting on their gifts, either because they are afraid to take the first step or maybe because they don’t know what that first step is. Well, here’s the first step—Come to our auditions!

We have vocal and band auditions 4 times a year. Our next vocal audition is Saturday, April 18 (it’s not too late to sign up!). If you are interested in vocal auditions, please e-mail me at Allison.mangrum@centralaz.com.  Our next band audition is Saturday, May 16, and if you are interested in auditioning for the band, you can e-mail Steve.mass@centralaz.com.

Music’s not your gift? That’s ok! Central has many serving opportunities available, no matter how God has gifted you. For more information, click here.

Don’t let your God given gifts go to waste. Use those gifts “so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
