For the past four weeks we’ve been in a series called “Prayer Circles” teaching about the power of prayer. We’ve looked at miraculous stories and history-changing events that came about simply because someone took the time to pray. But through all these amazing stories, many of us have had the same question: what about unanswered prayers?
In the message this weekend, Cal affirmed that God answers prayers, but that doesn’t mean that He’ll answer every prayer. Here are six reasons why a prayer might not get answered:
1. God might be preparing you for something better
2. God might be blessing you by saying no
3. God might be flooding your life with greater wisdom
4. God might be teaching you a life lesson
5. God might be using the silence to motivate you to deal with unconfessed sin in your life
6. God might be using the silence for the purpose of developing the character in your life
When it comes to prayer, there are always variables hidden from our sight. We don’t always know why God doesn’t answer some prayers, but there are two things that will help us push through unanswered prayers.
First, we need to persevere. We shouldn’t give up if a prayer isn’t answered right away! Secondly, we need to trust. If God doesn’t answer a prayer, it’s for a good reason. Even if we don’t know all the variables as to why God says no, we know that we can trust Him no matter what.
Verses and quotes from the message:
Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24; 1 John 5:14; 1 Peter 3:12a; Isaiah 55:8-9; Romans 8:28; 2 Corinthians 12:7-9; Isaiah 59:2; Psalms 66:18; Luke 18:1-9; Luke 11:5-13; Philippians 4:19
“Every prayer is a time capsule. You never know when or where or how God is going to answer it, but He will answer it. There is no expiration date, and there are no exceptions. God answer prayer. Period. We don’t always see it our understand it, but God always answers.” Mark Batterson, The CircleMaker
