This weekend we continued The Story with Chapter 19, The Return Home.
In this chapter, after a long 70 year exile in Babylon, the Israelites were finally allowed to return to their home in Jerusalem. Cyrus, the leader of the empire, not only allowed them to go home, but expressly did it so they could rebuild the temple. On top of that, he even gave them the resources to do it! With the empowerment and supplies to rebuild the temple, you’d think the Israelites would have built it in no time – except that they didn’t. The people of God lost focus on what should have been their priority, leaving the temple barely started and instead built homes for themselves. In other words, they let second-place things become first-place things.
