Continuing our journey through The Story, this week we focused on the Resurrection. Through the study of scripture, we see that the Resurrection of Jesus is the central feature!
The idea of what comes after death can be a mysterious topic to some. It’s easy to celebrate life and equally as easy to fear death. History shows that many have gone to great lengths to avoid death. Ponce de Leon was dedicated to finding the “fountain of youth” in hopes of evading death. Even now, we find many who dedicate their lives to researching how death may be defeated or prolonged. It certainly isn’t difficult to understand the reason people desire to overcome death.
Death is something all of us will face some day. No one is exempt from it. So, with this in mind, the big idea for the this weekend is that your understanding of death defines your appreciation of life.
There are many views of what comes after death, including: oblivion, hell, annihilation, reincarnation, and resurrection. The Bible hinges on the crucial fact of Jesus’ Resurrection. It matters more than anything, because we will find that our faith is useless if Jesus really did not rise from death.
Between the Bible, prophecies documented 300-400 years before Jesus was born, and hundreds of eye witnesses, we can be confident in the fact of Jesus’ resurrection. We also see countless lives that were taken on account of their faith in Jesus’ resurrection. Is it logical that people would die for a lie?
After understanding the importance of Resurrection, we now can understand the difference it makes in our own lives personally:
1. Your sins can be forgiven
2. You never need to get stuck on Saturday (the day before the Resurrection when everything seemed like it had failed)
3. You can live every day with hope
4. You need not fear death
5. You can now live in power
Jesus’ Resurrection makes all the difference. The way you understand His death will define your appreciation for His life, as well as the life He offers you!
