I’ve found the best messages that have the biggest impact on my life are often the simplest ones. When I’m able to remember it, say it back to someone, regularly come back to it, that message moves from a great idea I’ve heard to a great ideal I live by, strive towards. Romans 12 is packed full of so many simple but powerful statements. Verse 12 has become a foundational verse in my life.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
In times in my life that seem bleak or uncertain and all joy appears to be gone I must find my joy in hope. Hope that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. It definitely becomes extremely difficult to trust Jesus through uncertainty but I am reminded I need to be patient through whatever hardship I am in. Often I default to pushing things through in my own time or act impulsively in moments I need to wait. I love how Paul wraps everything together in this statement with a call to pray. It is through our consistent faithful prayers that God works to bring about growth. I have been encouraged and challenged time and time again by this simple but powerful verse.
May you find hope and joy in the midst of whatever trial you may be faced with today through patiently turning to God through prayer.
