nervous boy speaking

Jaime Geideman – Director of Worship Programming/Worship Leader

Nerves, nerves whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you? (You must re-read this with the tune of the theme song from the show COPS in your head, you know “Bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you?”) Sorry, I’m musical; everything reminds me of a song. 🙂

Nerves are a part of life, they are a part of music and music ministry isn’t immune to them either. I get asked all of the time if I get nervous about singing, and the answer is yes. I’ve gotten comfortable enough now at Central that I’ll only get nervous every once in a while if I’m singing a song that is really tough for me vocally but I still always get nervous about speaking elements. When I first started leading here, I was nervous all the time about everything! Because truth be told, I’m pretty shy (I know my stage presence says otherwise) but that is just proof that God can use anyone to do anything. I’ve been shy my entire life, I’ve been singing since I was four but it took all I had as a kid and teenager to get up the boldness to just walk up, grab a mic, sing a song and then get as far away from the area as I could. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I started feeling more comfortable on stage but I still battle nerves.

I oversee the worship team at Central and I am in charge of auditions. Everyone that comes in to audition is nervous; nerves are totally normal, actually I expect everyone to be nervous, I was nervous when I auditioned at Central! I talk to folks that want to get involved but they tell me they’d be too nervous to audition and people ask how to get over the nerves so they can audition. In my experience there’s only one-way to deal with nerves and it’s Do It While Being Nervous.    The more you do something the more comfortable you become with it, the only way to get on the other side of nerves is to push on through them! No matter how nervous I’ve ever been for something, I’ve never let it stop me and I’d encourage you in the same way!

We have vocal team and band auditions coming up at the end of October and beginning of November for our main worship services. We have a BIG current need for male vocalists to serve on our team for main stage worship services (14yrs and up.) Also, we have auditions coming up for our student band/vocal team (Jr High & High School age.) So, if you’re interested we’d love to have you come on out. Contact the people below to get connected and don’t let nerves get in the way!
