Have you ever, whether for Christmas or a birthday, been given an odd gift?  You know, those gifts that you just don’t know what to do with.  My wife and I love to find new and creative ways to use just about anything.  My wife will search on Pinterest or through a barrage of blogs and find just the right idea that will transform some oddball things into the most amazing things.  I want to live my life like this in a way…

To look at odd, maybe difficult situations and figure out how to make the most of them.  But sometimes I can get caught on thinking about the difficulties or tensions.  Or I will think too far ahead about all the things I want to do in ministry, with my family and in my life.  I get excited for what could be or I get frustrated at what’s not yet.  My head and heart can go into a tailspin.  Over the past year Colossians 4:4-5 have been a constant check and reminder of a great truth…

“Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.  Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.”

I want my pray life to be filled with prayers like this, that I would strive to proclaim Christ in everything that I do.  I want honor my family and my God with every action, every word, every thought.   And what I need to remember is to focus on each opportunity as it comes my way and make the most of that moment.

Make the most of it
