This weekend we continued The Story with (in my opinion) one of the best stories in the entire Bible: Joseph.
Hopefully you’ve been reading along, because this story is so long that it’s hard to cover in just one sermon – or blog post! But the gist is, Joseph encountered some huge hardships during his lifetime. First he was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Then, after resisting the temptation of “Lady Potiphar’s” seduction, gets thrown into prison for something he didn’t even do. In this dungeon Joseph spent the next ten years of his life. It seemed like the story couldn’t get any worse, but God was with Joseph, and eventually uses him to recognize a great famine and make plans to overcome it. Through Joseph, God saved the entire region surrounding Egypt from starving to death!
Joseph had no idea why God would allow all these terrible things to happen – he didn’t even do anything to deserve them. But God used Joseph for something greater than he could have ever imagined. You see, God’s level of control isn’t dependent on your level of understanding. Do you believe that you can trust God, even through your hardships?
Remember to read chapter 4 before next weekend. We’ll see you there!
