I led worship at Crash (Central’s high school service) this past weekend and it was one of those weekends where it just felt like the world was working against me. There was a lot of change happening in my life and things were not going as planned. I literally was being thrown curve balls right up until I walked onto our campus that night. So before we had rehearsal, I sat the entire band down to talk because I assumed that if I was feeling stressed about life there was a good chance some others were as well. I opened up the floor for the band to share, and everyone had something in his or her life that was causing stress. It was while we were praying for God to move in our service that the lyrics from one of the songs we were doing gave me a solution to my problem. The lyrics are from the song Cornerstone:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name
God showed me that the majority of my stress and anxiety comes from me putting my hope and trusts in things other than Him. Every time some changes happens in my life that I was not anticipating, it seems like my hope shatters and fall apart.
God is the only thing in this universe that is constant. He is never changing, and this is why we worship Him. It is very crucial that we only put our trust in Him. This is why we need to give thanks to him, because He is the one thing that keeps us from completely falling apart. We can’t always control what happens around us, but can control how we react to those things. So the next time life is throwing you that curveball, stop what you are doing and thank God for being the constant thing in your life.
