Jason Grindle – Student Worship

If you were able to make it to one of  Central’s services early enough this past weekend, you heard the band playing the song Happy by Pharrell Williams. Pharrell recently  did an interview with Oprah about the popularity of this song. When Pharrell watches the video of people all over the world dancing and singing to his song, he breaks down and cries. I was very impressed by this because  usually you never see a reaction like this from a musical artist. His humble reaction reminded me about God. That may sound weird to some of you, but I believe that God is the ultimate creator and He created us to be creative. Everyone has something that they are passionate about, whether it is music, film, art, writing, public speaking, teaching, etc. I believe when we are creative we are tapping into God since He created creativity. We are getting a glimpse of Him, whether you believe in Him or not.

When we are brought to tears by listening to an amazing song, or by seeing a touching movie, or if we are captivated by art, something makes sense to us. Something is connecting us to an experience and I believe it is God moving. I believe that Pharrell was created to create music. We were all created to do something. I believe that when we do the things that God created us to do, it makes Him “Happy.” That being said, I think God is ecstatic when we do these things for Him.

What are you passionate about?

What do you love doing?

What moves you?

I think that Pharrell is overcome by emotion in this video because he is experiencing what God can do through him and the gifts he has. He is doing what he was created to do. Now, what he does with his gifts is completely up to him. If you are not doing what you were created to do, start now. If you are doing what you have been created to do, are you doing it for the glory of God.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  Colossians 3:17

Don’t bottle up what you are passionate about. Share it with the world!
