This past week I had the opportunity to help install a sign on our Queen Creek campus property. This sign now lets everyone who drives by know that this is the Future Home of Central Christian Church’s Queen Creek Campus. As I stepped back and looked at the sign I couldn’t help but think of the comparison between the “Future Home” of what will be an amazing building and the “Future Home” we will have with Christ.

Jesus said in John 14:2-3

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

There are two very important things to notice in this passage. First of all Jesus is preparing a place for you and me. A place where there is room for everyone who puts their faith in Him. The second thing to note is that Jesus says “You will be where I am.” That means that our future home isn’t about brick and mortar but instead it’s all about being with Jesus, forever. Jesus has prepared something for us that will be nothing short of amazing. With that said it raises this question in my mind: How are we preparing for our future home?

D.L.Moody said “Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.”

Everyday God places people in our path. People whom Jesus died for, but who have yet to put their faith in Him. We need to be prepared to engage with them, prepared to love them, and prepared to tell them about the future home that is available to them. I don’t know about you, but I have to work hard at this. It’s easy for us to get so focused on our own agenda and miss the people God brings our way.

Buildings will come and go. Sure they are great tools and provide necessary space for helping people grow in their spiritual journey. But they should never become the destination of our journey. Our destination is with Jesus, the one who loves us so much that he died and rose again on our behalf, and is now preparing our future home in His kingdom.
