Steve Brines – Ahwatukee Student Pastor
I’ve spent the last couple evenings hanging out with a bunch of 1st-3rd graders at Extreme Week in Ahwatukee! It’s been awesome! There’s been lots of screaming, laughing, yelling, running, dancing and FUN!! So much fun that one little girl was bawling her eyes out last night because the week is already halfway over! So. Precious. And halfway through this wonderful madness, I feel like my legs and feet are going to literally fall off…literally! But it’s totally worth it!
You see, as we all set out to make our mark on the world and make a real difference, many times we forget this often overlooked people group…KIDS!
It can be easy to think they are the leaders of tomorrow, or someday they’ll understand the challenges of this world. For now, let’s get together with the ones who know what they’re doing and discuss the most important matters.
That’s a terrible way to think. Like seriously BAD!
Kids are leaders TODAY!
Kids have strengths that adults will NEVER have!
Kids are DOERS!
Jesus understood this when he called us all to be like children.
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
Imagine a third grade boy sitting around a circle talking for more than a few minutes about anything. BORING! He wants to get up and DO SOMETHING!
Men and women of the Church, let’s aspire to be like BOYS and GIRLS of the Church. Let’s stop sitting around trying to figure out the most important topics and issues and strategies of the day and get up and DO SOMETHING! Let’s BE THE CHURCH like kids. It’s time to follow THEIR example. We need to get out of our heads, get rid of any fears we have, remove any reasons why we can’t do it and start BELIEVING!!
Too often, we don’t.
The last thing we want is for our lack of faith to be contagious, especially to the next generation. We can’t hold them back.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
We need to point kids in Jesus’ direction, and then follow them.
