This weekend we wrapped up our miniseries, “Potential,” that will lead into our Christmas series.
Last week, Jeremy talked about the story of Moses, an incredible story where God empowered a man to lead millions of people out of slavery. Then hopefully you were able to join us for the Thanksgiving services where we saw Moses pass the baton to Joshua, leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. But this week we looked at a story that not many would want to be a part of: Jeremiah.
When we looked at the life of Moses, we explored three parts of potential. These three things apply to everyone, but that doesn’t mean all of our stories will be the same. This is highlighted in the life of Jeremiah.
1. God is with you
God was with Jeremiah, but that doesn’t mean that God gave him a covetable assignment. Jeremiah was tasked with telling the Israelites the terrible news that Jerusalem would soon be destroyed and all the survivors would be taken into captivity in Babylon. But God was with Jeremiah through all of this.
2. God is for you
God asked Jeremiah to delivering this bad news, but he also had to convey another nuance – that despite these consequences, God still cared for the Israelites. God is for you even when everything seems the opposite.
3. God wants to move you
This isn’t always the direction we want to move, and that is clearly seen by the life of Jeremiah. But potential is lived out through faithfulness, not results. Is God calling you to be faithful right now without the results you want?
Verses and quotes from the message:
Jeremiah 1:7-10; Jeremiah 7:16; Jeremiah 11:14; Jeremiah 14:11; Jeremiah 15:1a; Jeremiah 18:5-10; Jeremiah 7:27-29; Jeremiah 12:1; Hebrews 11:39-40; Jeremiah 18:18
Big idea: Potential is lived out through faithfulness, not results.
