This weekend, we continued Thy Kingdom Come by talking about customs of the Kingdom.

The customs of the Kingdom of God aren’t much like the customs of the world. Actually, they’re very different. If you’re a follower of Jesus, you are called to look and act differently than the world expects. If you’re a follower of Jesus, a lot of what you do won’t make sense to the world. We can see a lot about the customs of the Kingdom in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7.

For example, in Matthew 5:21-24, we see that our anger matters. To put it bluntly, if we’re not right with people, we’re not right with God! Take another example, adultery. In Matthew 5:27-32, we read that even our thoughts can be considered sinful. This list goes on and on, but the point is clear: Kingdom values are far different than worldly values!

Jesus was a radical teacher. If his teachings don’t strike you as such, you’re not getting them.

Verses and quotes from the message:

Romans 12:2; Matthew 7:21; John 6:46; Luke 6:40; John 14:9; Matthew 5:17-20; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 1 Corinthians 1:23; Matthew 5:21-24; Matthew 5:27-32; Matthew 5:43-48; Matthew 6:19-24; Matthew  6:25-34; Luke 6:46-49

Big Idea:  Jesus was a radical teacher. If his teachings don’t strike you as such, you’re not getting them.

“A real Christian is an odd number anyway. He feels supreme love for one whom he has never seen; talks familiarly every day to someone he cannot see; expects to go to heaven on the virtue of another; empties himself in order to be full; admits he is wrong so he can be declared right; goes down in order to get up; is strongest when he is weakest; richest when he is poorest; and happiest when he feels the worst. He dies so he can live; forsakes in order to have; gives away so he can keep; sees the invisible, hears the inaudible, and knows that which passes knowledge.” A. W. Tozer

“Wherever you are afraid is where Jesus is not king” – Jamie Winship

“Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried.” G.K. Chesterton
