Christmas GraphicCal Jernigan – Senior Pastor

I’m curious if you know the answer to a particular question. Ready?

When do more people attend church than at any other time of the year?

It’s not a trick question.

Yep. The answer is Christmas.

The point I want to make is how obvious the answer is!

It’s Christmas. It’s obviously Christmas. You know the answer without even having to think about it.

I just read that it is estimated that as many as 67% of all Americans will choose to attend a Christmas service this coming week. 67%!!!

Just what makes Christmas so special? I believe there is no other time of the year when people are in a deeper and more reflective frame of mind. As people celebrate Christmas they tend to evaluate their lives in ways they seldom do otherwise. They think about their lives past, present and future. I also believe these Christmas reflections are the catalyst which leads people to make the New Year resolutions they make. Christmas causes us to pause, to think, to reflect, to process and to prioritize.

It’s simply this time of reflection that is a huge part of what makes Christmas such a meaningful time. Further, Christmas causes people to think about the role of God in their lives like they do at no other time of the year. Many, MANY people meet Christ for the first time in the quiet of a Christmas worship service.

Let me let you in on something. I’ve already seen our Christmas service. I experienced a run through of it the other night. It was FANTASTIC! Our Creative Arts team has done a tremendous job putting a very powerful program together. As you know, our Christmas theme this year is Momentum. This service is designed to demonstrate how all of God’s movement in our lives builds towards the single moment when we have a personal encounter with him. God touching our lives – our lives touching God. Wow!

Here’s the deal. I don’t want you to miss this event, and I don’t want anyone you love and care about to miss it either.

If you have ever been hesitant to ask someone to attend church with you, now is the time when you should be the most bold in doing so! Statistics clearly demonstrate that most people WILL go to some service, in some church, somewhere this next week. Why not ask them to go to YOUR church, with YOU, because YOU are the one who cared enough about them to personally invite them to come with you?

As I’m sure you know, we have a bunch of services we’ll be offering over three nights in five different cities. There is simply no reason not to be bold in your ask. I promise for my part that I will do everything within my power to help them hear from God. Deal?
