Wes McGarrah – HS Pastor Mesa Campus
It’s been 5 days since the High School Ministry took close to 400 Students and Leaders to California for High School Camp. For the most part, I think everyone has caught up on sleep and adjusted back to a normal diet of food. I think some of us have even stopped shaking from all the coffee we drank to stay awake for those long days of craziness.
There’s a lot that can be said about Student Camps, so much happens that you could spend a lot of time talking about a bunch of different things. In our case, the worship was incredible, the speakers all did a great job at engaging students and delivering powerful messages, the beach was awesome and the activities were full of great memories. But the one thing I talk about when someone asks me how camp went, is always our adult leaders. These men and women gave up time with families, time away from work, took vacation days, underwent what some people would describe as a Sleep Deprivation Study – all so they could spend time connecting with students. And connect they did.
I couldn’t be more proud of and thankful for the people I get to do ministry with! It is truly a blessing to see God work in the lives of young people and it is even more of a blessing to work alongside a group of adults that God is using in those students lives. If you’ve ever served with students, you get what it takes to fully invest in the lives of students. If you haven’t served with students…just know that the next time you see an adult leader, whether you have students at home or not, you should go up to them and thank them for what they are doing. They are making a difference in the lives of students each and every day. And that is what makes getting pegged in the face with a dodge ball just a little more worth it.
My prayer is that because of what happened 5 days ago, one student will reminisce about their life in the years to come and share with someone how God changed them through the impact one leader had in their lives. If you are an adult leader and you happen to be reading this. Thank you. It was all worth it and you did an incredible job!
