Walking in the Light

Alex Enabnit – Programming Coordinator

This weekend we continued our “God Is” portion of the Short Stories series in 1 John.

It probably wouldn’t take much to convince you that we live in a dark time. There is a lot of evil going on in the world, but that is all the result of darkness in our own hearts. Luckily, as John explains, Jesus is light! In Jesus there is absolutely no darkness.

Light is a very important concept in John’s writings. Light represents all that is good, pure, true, and holy. And light does many things for us: it brings life, reveals beauty, provides safety, and exposes reality. So what are we supposed to do with that?

Cal proposed three areas that God’s light must shine into our lives:

  • Into our purity
  • Into our obedience
  • Into our relationships

Is there an area of your life that you’re still keeping in darkness? The more you walk in the light, the brighter the world that you walk in. Let God’s light shine into your life!

Verses and quotes from the sermon:

Judges 17:6; 1 John 1:5-10, 2:1-11; 1 Timothy 6:16; John 1:4, 8:12, 13:34-35

“Left to himself, man is half beast and half devil.” George Whitefield

“The line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being.” Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Big Idea: The more you walk in the light, the brighter the world you walk in.
