Sweet Pursuit

Alex Enabnit – Programming Coordinator

This weekend we continued our “Marks of Ownership” series talking about the core values of Central.

This week we talked about two of the six marks of ownership that we will be covering over these next few weeks. The first one that we looked at is called Passionately Pursuing Jesus. We follow a God who relentlessly pursues us, and we are called to do the same with Him. We are called to trust, depend on, and obey Jesus. While nobody can do this perfectly, we are all on a journey where we must pursue Jesus with all of our hearts. What does this look like exactly?

The very first step to beginning this journey is baptism. It is an important statement at the beginning of a lifetime of putting Jesus first.

The next mark of ownership that we examined is Found People Find People. In other words, when you discover Jesus, you naturally want to tell others about Him! As ambassadors of Christ (2 Cor. 5:20) we are called to bring the good news of Jesus to others. You may be hesitant about doing this for various reasons, but a great first step to get started into this is to get to know your neighbors. That is a big reason why Central has been doing a push about the Art of Neighboring for a while now, because it’s hard to ignore the importance of witnessing to people right next to us.

Next week we’ll look at another set of two marks of ownership. Be sure to join us!

Verses and quotes from the message:

Philippians 3:10-14; Psalms 63:6; Psalm 5:1-3; John 1:40-45; Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 5:20

“When a Christian sees prostitutes, alcoholics, prisoners, drug addicts, unwed mothers, the homeless, refugees, he knows that he is looking in a mirror. Perhaps the Christian spent all of his life as a respectable middle-class person. No matter. He thinks, Spiritually I was just like these people, though physically and socially I never was where they are now. They are outcasts. (Spiritually speaking) I was an outcast.”  Tim Keller

Big Idea:  Your passion for God draws you to others, and others to him.
