So Others May Live

Alex Enabnit – Research Editor

We finished our “Peace” series this weekend, and what a series it has been!

In the message, Cal started by addressing the controversy that this series has brought out. Ironically, there are lots of people who are up in arms about the idea of peace! To be clear, actually living out what Jesus taught, such as loving our enemies, is really, really difficult. But if we say we follow Him, we need to be doing what he says… No matter how bad that enemy may be.

In the other half of the message, Cal talked us through the reality that we cannot be at peace with others until we are at peace with God. And we all need to be at peace with God because we have all declared war against God with our actions. But Christ died in order to bring an end to this war and to reconcile us back to God. This is something that Jesus offers to anyone who wants it!

Third (and most difficult) is that once we are reconciled to God, we are charged with reconciling others as well. We are Christ’s ambassadors, responsible for spreading His message to those who don’t yet know Him. Cal used a life ring to illustrate that we are responsible for spreading the life-saving news that Jesus died for everyone, regardless of who we want to be “in” – because often Is there somebody we have a hard time with. That certain somebody who might not “deserve” it, or who offended us too much, or who we just inherently dislike. But the truth is, they need Jesus just as much as we do. So the question remains, who you would hesitate to throw the ring to? Once you’ve identified them, will you actually throw it to them?
