Pull Up a Chair

Community Plate
JoJo Nieves – Worship Leader

I always look back at my years in college as a very unique time in my life. Although four years isn’t very long in the grand scheme of things, the experiences I had there have impacted me enormously. One of those areas in particular is my heart for community (or fellowship if you’d prefer that word better). If you lived on campus when you went to college, you might understand what I’m talking about. On-campus housing is a breeding ground for community, especially at a small college like mine. I met people from different denominations, political views, family situations, and interests than me and learned how to live alongside them on a daily basis.

Let’s Remember Together

JoJo Nieves – Worship Leader

Can you hear it? If you listen closely, you can hear the grumbles of full bellies, the echoes of laughter, and the deep sighs of joy felt by the presence of loved ones. It’s what I like to call the week after Christmas. For me, those faint remnants of family and friends always seem to collide with an acute awareness that the new year is just around the corner. I find myself reflecting on everything I’ve experienced in this past year – all the joys and pains, gains and losses, blessings and trials. They better have some good food!   Should I get my kids’ teachers something…..hmmmmm. Got it, coffee cup; everyone drinks coffee. Shoot, the stupid bulbs on the Christmas tree went out again. You would think with all the technology today, they could make a stinkin set of Christmas lights that won’t burnout. Home Depot….here I come.

Seeing God in a Paintball Game

Kevin Larter – Gilbert Junior High Pastor

This is part of a series of posts about Mystery in the Mundane.

Corey (our Gilbert Campus Pastor) called me last Friday morning. “The time has come!” he pronounced. “Slingshot Paintball, my friend. Tomorrow, 7:30am.” During my first week at Central—back in mid-January—Corey told me that he and a bunch of guys liked to go out into the desert for Slingshot Paintball games. My only experience with paintball was with gun. I had never played the Bart Simpson version before.
